Manuel Cerny
Hello dear Musicfans!
My name is Manuel Cerny and I am professional DJ since 1994 focussing on Eurodance. My music archive consists of over 6000 Maxi-CDs, hundreds of CDs and lots of Vinyl-Maxis. Listening to my favourite music together with other people who have the same interest is twice as much fun. That's why Eurodance Radio exists.
My EDR
For me, exactly the music that I use in EDR is my world, my life and also my attitude towards life. My taste in music doesn't change, otherwise I wouldn't be the person I am anymore. Eurodance gives European producers, artists and music publishers their own identity on the world stage and strengthens their own interests. If you want a strong musical Europe, you must allow each individual European country to have its own artistic values, its own musical character and its own interests. This corresponds to real cultural diversity and ensures variety. This is the only way evolution is possible. EDR supports this evolution and uses it to form its own identity and strength that no other music platform can offer.
About me
Biography
I was born in Burglengenfeld located in the Free State of Bavaria, Southern Germany. Beside radio, music has always been my favourite hobby. When I was a child I mainly listened to Radio Luxemburg on 6090 kHz in the 49m-band or on medium wave 1440 kHz. Later, when private radio started in my country, I listened to Antenne Bayern. In the early 1990s I tried to imitate the DJ mixes from the radio myself with my then modest resources. It was a formative time for me because it was the foundation for what I did later until today. From 1994 I became a professional DJ and by 1995 I had my own studio technology. Since 1996 I am "radio-active" and now I am using the modern Internet ways to send my music to you!
DJ-ing
I still remember the first time I came across long "maxi versions". This happened purely by chance when I was listening to a private station on FM in the evening and, for example, Madonna was playing "Like a prayer" with additional bars that were not in the "normal" radio version for me. Over time I also heard long versions by the Pet Shop Boys and other well-known artists. As a child, I thought the radio people had artificially lengthened the "normal" versions using all sorts of technical tricks and high-performance computers, but I couldn't explain where the extra vocals came from. I wanted to find out more about it and over time I found out that in addition to the small "45" records, there were also 45s that were the size of long-playing records. The long versions are there. Cool! How I would have wanted to have all of these maxis, too. But I didn't have the money for it at the time. I had pocket money of 20 DM per month and I had no relatives who gave me money. The No. 1 source of music for me was the radio. That's probably why I'm designing my own private podcast as a radio show, because that's how I want it. I can finally produce my own radio and, if you look at it that way, it's a childhood dream that I can fulfill for myself. That's why I do it.
Thank you, Radio-DJs!
I never found out who was behind all the DJ mixes on the radio. Whoever the radio DJs were: they shaped my childhood and youth and I took them as role models. In the early '90s I tried to copy their mixes 1:1 and the next step was to make it even better. I've managed to do this by developing my own style and my DJ sets have an unmistakable structure and tell stories.
I am radio-active
I've never had public gigs, I don't want that at all. I don't really want to be called a "DJ". Instead, I see myself as an artist, a music lover, a music listener, and for my sake I'll put up with it if someone labels me as a "nerd" who keeps my CD collection list with catalog numbers so that at some point I can add all possible variants of a maxi CD to my own collection. I am a radio producer, editor, author and record collector. That's why I don't need TikTok, Twitch, Instagram or whatever. I don't care about fame or Likes on social media. Music is the cosmic key to a fulfilled life. Only music!
I dislike Social Media
Too much "social media" makes people sick. Influencers (professional advertising operators), content creators and whatever other (job) titles may emerge in the future will never find great happiness because they voluntarily make themselves slaves of the Internet. I have a completely different relationship with the Internet: I just see it as an additional communication option to be able to contact my fans and friends and stay connected. It is the technical evolution of telephone and postal mail. Neither more nor less. I no longer have to record my DJ sets on tape and send them in the mail to my fans. Computers and the Internet are supposed to simplify life, people say where to go and the computer has to obey. It must not be reversed and result in people listening to the music that some (sponsored) online portal suggests. This leads to market distortion, stultification, promotes laziness and leads to the impoverishment of the spirit.
My hope
I hope that my EDR helps listeners engage with the music more intensively, that I can arouse interest and that music enthusiasts see the Internet as a tool that makes it easier to find and, if necessary, buy CDs and records. After all, there's a lot of music playing on EDR that isn't played on any other radio stations. The much-promoted "diversity" and "variety" does not even take place in the major mainstream media; from Flensburg to Bad Reichenhall, thousands of state or private radio stations broadcast the same music offering everywhere. That was also one of the reasons why I started with EDR. For me, variety and diversity are a matter of course and I don't waste any words about it.
